Anthropic, a company founded by ex-OpenAI employees, has launched its AI chatbot called Claude, designed to be more helpful, honest, and harmless than other chatbots.
According to the company, Claude has a reduced likelihood of producing harmful outputs and is easier to converse with than OpenAI’s ChatGPT. However, like ChatGPT, Claude can provide summaries, answer questions, help with writing, and even generate code. Additionally, users can customize Claude’s tone, personality, and behavior to their liking.
Google invested $300 million in Anthropic, suggesting confidence in the company’s vision of developing a more ethical and beneficial AI assistant. In addition, Anthropic has given early access to Claude to several companies, including Notion, Quora, and DuckDuckGo, which recently announced its own search tool powered by both Anthropic and OpenAI.
Anthropic has also released a cheaper and faster model of Claude called Claude Instant. The company’s goal is to create a self-contained AI assistant with no internet access and is designed to serve the user without causing harm.
Anthropic’s announcement of Claude comes at a time of increased AI-related news, including the launch of OpenAI’s GPT-4 model and Google’s new AI applications for Docs, Gmail, Sheets, and Slides.
Those interested in using Claude can visit Anthropic’s website to view pricing information and sign up for access. Overall, Anthropic is committed to developing good AI for everyone and wants to make that a reality.
