No no, he has a point…
David Beasley, director of the UN’s World Food Programme has been urging billionaires especially Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos who are at the top of the Bloomberg Billionaires to “step up now, on a one-time basis” to end world hunger.
This claim was challenged by Musk himself who responded to the comments made by Beasley who said that just $6 billion could keep 42 million people from dying. “If the World Food Programme, using transparent and open accounting can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it,” Musk wrote in a tweet.
Currently, Musk is the CEO of the electric-vehicle company Tesla which recently rose to the position of being valued at more than $1 trillion dollars. Similarly, Musk’s current net worth is around $311 billion so $6 billion is just a small fraction of this wealth. But Musk isn’t ready to part with this money unless the UN has a solid plan on utilizing it for the betterment of people and if they can show evidence that the amount would be able to solve world hunger “once and for all.”
Dr. Eli David, co-founder of Deep Instinct and a leading AI expert also challenged Beasley’s claims and gave a “fact check” to the people asking for the $6 billion dollars. He stated that the UN Food Program raised about $8.4 billion dollars in 2020 but still couldn’t “solve world hunger” so how do they expect to solve it with Musk’s $6 billion?
Looks like the UN needs to come up with an action plan if they want to get on Musk’s good side…
