Elon Musk Set Up 100,000 Nvidia H200 GPUs In 19 days – Jensen Huang Says The Process Normally Takes 4 Years

Elon Musk and the xAI team have set a new benchmark in engineering excellence by deploying a supercluster of 100,000 Nvidia H200 GPUs in just 19 days. This remarkable feat was highlighted by Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, during a discussion with the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley group on X. Huang expressed admiration for Musk’s extraordinary accomplishment, referring to it as a “superhuman” effort that typically takes years to achieve.

The journey from concept to full implementation of these powerful GPUs was completed in less than three weeks a timeline that included the first AI training run on the newly constructed supercluster. According to Huang, the process involved building a massive X factory to house the GPUs, equipping the facility with state-of-the-art liquid cooling systems, and providing sufficient power to make all 100,000 GPUs operational.

One of the most challenging aspects of this rapid deployment was the seamless coordination between Nvidia’s and Musk’s engineering teams. Together, they managed the complex logistics of shipping, installing, and integrating all the hardware and infrastructure into a functional system, a process that would typically span four years for a conventional data center. In most cases, three of those years would be allocated to planning and only the final year to actual equipment installation and operational setup.

Huang emphasized the difficulty of networking Nvidia’s hardware, explaining that it is far more intricate than traditional data center servers. The task requires managing a dense web of cables and connections, making it even more impressive that Musk’s team accomplished this in record time.

Jensen Huang concluded by stating that Musk’s achievement of integrating 100,000 H200 GPUs on such a scale is unprecedented. He expressed doubt that another company could replicate this engineering marvel any time soon, highlighting the unique capabilities of Musk and his team at xAI.
