Twitter New User Signups At An ‘All-Time High,’ Says Elon Musk

Elon Musk says new user signups are at an “all-time high” a month after completing his acquisition of Twitter. On Saturday evening, the billionaire posted a slide deck outlining Twitter’s current situation and vision for the site.

Musk reported in a tweet that as of November 16, signups were averaging over two million per day, up 66 percent from the same week in 2021.

He also noted that user active minutes were at an all-time high, averaging around 8 billion active minutes per day in the previous seven days as of November 15, representing a 30% increase over the same week last year.

Impersonations of hate speech had decreased as of November 13 compared to October of the previous year. In addition,  Musk claims that reported impersonations on Twitter spiked earlier this month, both before and after the launch of Twitter Blue.

Musk, who also owns SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and the Boring Company, has indicated that owning Twitter would speed up his ambition of building an “everything app” called X.

Musk’s “Twitter 2.0 The Everything App” would contain features including encrypted direct messages (DMs), long-form tweets, and payments, according to the tweet.

In another tweet, Musk indicated that he saw a “path to Twitter exceeding a billion monthly users in 12 to 18 months.”

Twitter advertisers have discontinued advertising while they cope with the new CEO. Musk said that the advertising backlash created a “massive drop in revenue” for Twitter, citing a coalition of human rights organizations lobbying the platform’s large advertisers to take action if he did not protect content moderation.

Protesters are encouraging Twitter’s advertisers to make public statements about pulling their adverts from the social media network after Musk lifted the restriction on former US President Donald Trump.
