Musk Says Tesla May Have ‘Optimus’ Robot Prototype By The End Of September

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, revealed on Twitter that the electric carmaker’s second AI Day would be postponed until September 30 due to the possibility of having a functioning humanoid robot up and running within months.

Optimus initially unveiled in August 2021 during Tesla’s debut AI Day, is a human-sized robot Musk envisions performing everyday activities such as grocery shopping.

In January, the CEO said that Tesla prioritised product development of the Optimus humanoid robot in 2022 over other products.

The artificial humanoid, also known as Tesla Bot, will have “the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time,” according to Musk. Tesla intends to construct the robot using its existing knowledge of electrical machines and batteries for electric vehicles and its AI skills.

In addition, Musk stated the robot would improve with time and be able to perform various tasks, making it useful for commercial and personal applications.

Optimus will be roughly 173 centimetres (5ft’8) tall, weigh around 57 kilos, and have a carrying capacity of 20 pounds, according to a demo presented during the 2021 AI event. The same artificial intelligence technologies that Tesla is developing for its electric automobiles will control it.

Essentially, Musk stated that “physical work will be a choice.” “Tesla is arguably the largest robotics firm in the world.” Our automobiles are basically semi-sentient robots on wheels.”

Musk has a history of disclosing merely prototypes of technologies, effectively selling an idea before it is realised. Regardless, his claim that a prototype humanoid robot may be operational by the end of September drew a lot of attention worldwide.
