Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has recently shed light on one of his “terrible habits”. While talking about his morning routine in the latest interview with “Full Send Podcast”, Musk seemed a bit dissatisfied with his morning rituals. He said the first thing he does as soon as he wakes up in the morning is checking his phone. According to him, the habit is proving unhealthy as it might be having harmful effects on his daily productivity level. Not only Musk, but around 80% of smartphone users have been caught in with this habit, and the research conducted by IDC revealed that these people spend the first 15 minutes of their day checking up on their phones.
Musk said, “I have a bad habit — which I suspect a lot of people do — of immediately checking my phone [in the morning],” Musk said on the show. “It’s a terrible habit, actually.” He further said in the interview that he used to check his emails in the first 30 minutes after waking up daily in the morning, which was not giving him any type of benefits. He then stated that he wanted to replace this terrible habit with something useful, and he opted for the workout.
He said, “I [need] to work out and be in better shape. So, I’m going to switch from immediately looking at my phone as soon as I wake up to working out for at least 20 minutes — then I’ll look at my phone. ” Similarly, a study conducted in 2019 and published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine also concluded that a morning workout is directly related to an increase in productivity level throughout the day. It also added that doing normal exercises in the morning is also linked to enhancing the decision-making skills of an individual along with boosting short-term memory. His latest interview, in which he talked about this issue is embedded below:
Musk usually goes to bed at 3 A.M. and wakes up at 9 A.M. The reason for checking his emails right after getting up is to make himself immediately aware of the working conditions at his company, including the knowledge of the occurrence of any type of emergency there, if so. Regarding this issue, Musk said, “I run SpaceX and Tesla, so there’s usually some sort of thing that’s happened overnight.” He further said, “There were probably times when I had like eight [Diet Cokes] a day or something ridiculous. I think these days it’s probably one or two, so it’s nothing too crazy. “
