Elon Musk has made another bold prediction about SpaceX’s future, claiming the aerospace company could one day be worth more than the entire Earth’s economy if it achieves its long-term ambitions. The remark comes just weeks after Musk suggested that money itself could eventually lose much of its importance.
Musk made the comment on July 9 in response to a discussion on X about SpaceX’s multibillion-dollar artificial intelligence computing partnership with Anthropic. “You don’t seem to understand that SpaceX will be worth more than the rest of Earth if we accomplish our goals,” he wrote.
The claim appears to contrast with comments Musk made around the time of SpaceX’s IPO during a conversation with entrepreneur Peter Diamandis. Discussing the long-term impact of artificial intelligence and robotics, Musk argued that money could eventually become less relevant as automation dramatically increases the production of goods and services.
“I think money will stop being relevant at some point in the future,” Musk said, explaining that abundant AI-driven productivity could create persistent deflation by allowing the supply of goods and services to outpace the money supply.
Despite the apparent contradiction, Musk’s two statements are rooted in the same vision. He has repeatedly argued that while traditional currency may become less important, physical resources such as electricity, computing power, and access to space will remain limited and therefore highly valuable.
That philosophy is reflected in SpaceX’s expanding ambitions beyond rocket launches. The company is developing Starmind, a proposed network of AI-focused satellites designed to provide large-scale computing capacity powered by abundant solar energy in orbit. Early prototype launches are reportedly planned for 2027.
Skeptics note that Musk has made similarly ambitious predictions before, including claims that Tesla could eventually become more valuable than Apple and Saudi Aramco combined. Whether SpaceX ultimately reaches anything close to the future Musk envisions remains uncertain. However, his latest comments reinforce a consistent belief that space infrastructure, energy, and computing will become the defining assets of the next technological era.
