Elon Musk is at it again folks and this time, the dream of visiting Mars might turn into reality sooner than you have anticipated, to be exact, in 6 years. According to a recent announcement by Elon Musk; the SpaceX firm owned by him is making quite some progress in order to establish a colony on Mars by 2020 and the tickets are expected to be priced at $500,000.
These claims have been made after the SpaceX conducted successful rocket tests back in April, so yes; these are backed up claims and not just arrows in the dark. Elon hopes to establish a colony of 80,000 people on Mars eventually but right now, he admits that he wishes to go small with only a colony of 10 people and then build the colony up from there.
In words of Elon Musk; ‘At Mars, you can start a self-sustaining civilization and grow it into something really big. I think we’re making some progress in that direction – not as fast as I’d like.’ These words were spoken by Elon Musk at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London. Back in April, the company was able to successfully perform a rocket test for a two-stage Falcon 9 that was launched from Florida after three days of delays. The rocket is re-useable and shortly after the Dragon capsule had delivered the items to ISS, the rocket crashed back into a pre-determined target in the Atlantic Ocean.
SpaceX has a $1.6 billion contract with NASA, which covers a number of supply missions in future and this contract will be used in testing out the technology even more. Elon has plans of using such rocket filled with liquid oxygen and methane to make it to Mars.
Whether this venture will be a success or not, Elon Musk is proving yet again that only he can think of such crazy big ideas. Fingers Crossed!
