Elon Musk is back with another surprise – this time taking aim at Wikipedia. The billionaire has announced the launch of Grokipedia, a self-described “truthful” encyclopedia powered by xAI’s Grok model. According to Forklog, the project is designed to counter misinformation and bias that Musk claims have overtaken existing platforms.
He revealed that the first beta version, called Grokipedia 0.1, will roll out within two weeks. The plan is for Grok’s AI to scan vast amounts of data, evaluate the credibility of sources, and then rewrite information to present what Musk calls “the full truth.” It’s an ambitious promise – especially from someone who has publicly clashed with Wikipedia, even joking last year that he would pay a billion dollars if it changed its name to something far less polite.
The idea reportedly began as a casual suggestion during a podcast appearance. When someone mentioned Musk should create his own encyclopedia, he said he’d discuss it with his xAI team. Since then, it seems that casual idea has turned into a full-fledged project. Musk has often criticized how online knowledge platforms are edited and moderated, calling their systems biased and agenda-driven. Grokipedia, he claims, will take an open-source approach to ensure transparency and objectivity.
The announcement has sparked both curiosity and skepticism. On one hand, it could be a revolutionary attempt to clean up the web’s misinformation problem. On the other, it raises a critical question—who decides what counts as “truth”? If Grok’s algorithms are doing the rewriting, they’ll still rely on human-coded parameters, which means bias could creep in regardless of good intentions.
Observers are also watching to see whether xAI will truly make the platform open source or if it will remain under corporate control. That distinction will determine whether Grokipedia becomes a collaborative space like Wikipedia or a tightly managed product shaped by Musk’s worldview.
For now, the project remains in early testing, with few technical details revealed. But Musk’s track record of turning bold ideas into reality – sometimes against all odds – means the tech world will be paying attention. Whether Grokipedia ends up reshaping how information is shared or just fuels another round of internet debate remains to be seen.
