You all know Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, right? The famous, Rainbow Sheikh? Yeah, the same guy who is among one of the most well-known car collectors in the UAE. The Rainbow Sheikh has combined a military truck and a Jeep for the sake of creating the world’s largest SUV – as per his claims. The contraption is called Dhabiyan and has been designed and built by Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan.
The Dhabiyan is a 10-wheel vehicle that has been based on the Oshkosh M1075 military truck with a Jeep Wrangler affixed to it as the driver cabin. The Dhabiyan is powered using a 600hp, 15.2-liter, 6-cylinder Caterpillar C15 diesel engine. It weighs in at 24-tonnes and measures in at 10.8 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width, and 3.2 meters in height. Dhabiyan was unveiled at an automotive show that was recently held in Sharjah. The cost of production for Dhabiyan has been kept confidential; however; it is safe to assume that it was not cheap at all.
Dhabiyan is one of the many luxurious cars that are owned by Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan as part of his private collection. He loves showcasing his collection on Instagram. Coming to his nickname, The Rainbow Sheikh; the name was given to him after one of his impressive cars – a Mercedes S-class that was painted in rainbow colors, from the upholstery to its wheels.
As was suspected, the online reaction to the unveiling of this huge SUV has been mixed. Some are impressed by the massive size of the Dhabiyan while some are calling it a show of uselessness. The later have pointed out some flaws including bad front visibility thanks to the long body, poor suspension, and the issue of fuel consumption. However, we are sure that arranging the fuel won’t be an issue for The Rainbow Sheikh who is a member of the ruling family in Abu Dhabi.
