Cooler Master has formally unveiled the Shark X gaming PC, a device that draws inspiration from Leviathan, a Case Mod World Series winner. The Shark X is expected to ship later this year and is already available for pre-order at an enticing $6,999. Its remarkable shark-like design, which has RGB lights on the base and a “leaping” appearance that makes it appear ready to strike from atop your desk, is what makes it stand out.
The Shark X is equipped with impressive hardware but remains somewhat limited given its hefty price tag. It features an Intel Core i7-14700F CPU installed on a B760I motherboard, 64GB of DDR6-6000 memory, and an Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti Super GPU with 16GB of memory. Storage is ample with 2TB of NVMe space, while power is supplied by an 850W PSU. The PC uses a liquid cooler for the CPU with a 120mm fan and radiator, while the GPU is mounted vertically via a riser cable. The entire build measures approximately three feet tall, standing at 35.2 inches.
Though the Shark X is certainly a conversation starter, it does come with some practical limitations. For instance, the GPU area only allows for up to 11.9 inches of clearance, making it difficult to upgrade to a larger card like the RTX 4090 or RTX 4080, which would fit with little room to spare. Additionally, the use of a 120mm CPU cooler limits the system’s ability to accommodate high-end hardware upgrades in the future.
Despite these constraints, the Shark X remains a unique offering for gamers looking for something truly different. Cooler Master also included a clever touch by using the illuminated dorsal fin as a Wi-Fi antenna. While it would be great if they sold the Shark X as a bare-bones kit, it remains an eye-catching pre-built machine with lasting appeal for those willing to invest in its aesthetic and mid-range capabilities.
