World’s largest train makers, China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), is looking to add another impressive achievement under its belt. The giant now looks to develop a new type of magnetic levitation (maglev) train, possibly the fastest ever, which will aim at travelling with a top speed of 373 miles per hour (600 km per hour). The construction of this amazing concept has already begun, but it might be at least a decade before this ultra high-speed maglev can become operational.

Meanwhile, CRRC is also looking to build two other maglev trains travelling at 124mph (200kph) and 248mph (400 kph). The concept is being tested to replace the current 217mph trains in China with these 10 percent more energy-efficient trains. They are also being built to “establish domestic technology and standard systems for new-generation medium- and high-speed maglev transportation that can be applied globally,” as Sun Bangcheng, a CRRC official, stated in an interview.

The current record for the fastest train in the world is held by a Japanese maglev train which can travel at a staggering speed of 375 mph. And although the train’s design and logistics are ready, it’s availability for public use is delayed until at least 2027 due to the incredibly costly and complex infrastructural requirements. This might give an idea of the enormity of the task that lays ahead of CRRC.

What are your thoughts on these high-speed maglev trains?
