The emerging superpower plans to cover an area exceeding 5.5 million square kilometers with artificial rain.
China’s State Council stated that they would develop a ‘Weather Modification System’ by the year 2025. The novel rain system will also be able to create artificial hail storms.
The council’s statement read that China will have a developed weather modification system by 2025 with breakthroughs in its fundamental research and key technologies, visible improvements in modernization and refined services, enhancement in comprehensive prevention against safety risks, and optimizations in systems and policy environment.
The statement said that China’s weather modification should get to the global advanced level in operations, technologies, and services by 2035.
“Weather modification should strengthen its service backup in the subsequent key fields: calculation for disasters such as hail and drought, and related plan work in agricultural production areas; normalized working strategies for regions in need of ecological protection and reparation; and significant emergency responses to deal with events such as grassland fires or forest, and extraordinarily high temperatures or droughts,” added the statement.
Cloud Seeding
Nobody knows the result of experimenting with these weather changing technologies, as it is yet to be examined. Although what we know is that China is not experimenting with such technology for the first time.
China has used Cloud Seeding technology in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The technology was used to reduce rainfall during its opening ceremony and keep the weather favorable.
For those who don’t know, cloud seeding is a process that works on changing the type and amount of precipitation coming from the clouds. The technology disperses substances into the air that works as a condenser for the clouds.
It also plays with a substance called ice nuclei, which alters the microphysical processes within the cloud. It makes the raindrops or ice flakes fall from the clouds.
