We are witnessing robot pets making their way into our lives ever since the 1990s. However, the recent models have become exponentially more sophisticated with the advancements in technology. 1. Leonardo Is Hyper-Realistic
Leonardo, a robot pet, appears to be a hybrid between a cute little pup and Gizmo from The Gremlins. Keeping appearances aside, it is definitely a very smart robot pet. It has been created by Personal Robots Group while working together with Stan Winston Studios.
This particular robot pet has been designed to carry out interaction with people while developing an emotional connection with its owners. It is one of the most expensive human robots that are available and relies on social intelligence for communicating and learning like regular people.
2. Say Hello to AIBO
Artificial Intelligence Bot, AIBO, is known as one of the most sophisticated domestic robots that are available. This cute robot pet will have you fall in love without wasting any time. It can see color and even feel objects. The first AIBO was released back in 1998. Since then, it sure has come a long way. Sony released the latest generation of AIBO in November 2017. The fourth generation model, ERS-1000, was launched in Japan on 11th January 2018.
3. You Remember Furby, Right?
Furbies became the rage about ten years ago. We all had one, right? These electronic robot pets seemed like a furry owl. Furby is able to communicate in more than 24 different languages and is even capable of interacting with the owner. The best Furby was released back in 1998 and remained a best seller for many years. During the first three years of production, about 40 million Furbies were sold all over the world.
4. Yume Neko Is An Alternative To Cat
If you like cats but don’t want to get scratched or bitten, then Yume Neko is the perfect robot pet for you. It is the perfect lap cat and even looks and feels like a real cat. It can interact but in a limited manner. It is capable of purring, meowing, and can even sense when you are nearby. It gives audible responses to your behavior and loves it when you use the included comb for stroking its fur.
5. Reeti Is Cuteness Personified
Reeti has been created by Robopec in France and is a completely animated robot. This robot pet can mimic some of the human facial expressions and is even capable of reacting to human emotions. As per its developer, Reeti ‘can express an infinity of emotions thanks to a flexible skin and 15 degrees of freedom distributed on his neck, mouth, independent eyes, and ears.’ It is available in two variants; DEV version and PRO version.
6. Qooba Is A Huggable Pillow
It is a huggable robotic pillow that comes with a tail. The robot has been to provide a calming and therapeutic companion to the user. It doesn’t feature any whiskers or face. It doesn’t even have legs and won’t communicate audibly. However, it will move its tail to respond to different stimuli.
The designer of Qooba, Tsubasa Tominaga of Yukai Engineering, said, ‘Some say this reflects the Japanese cultural ability to appreciate negative space in art.’
7. Say Hello To PARO – Seal Robot
PARO comes from AIST and is one of the cutest robot pets that you will ever see. It has been developed to look like a seal pup and offers stress-relieving aid by acting as a form of animal therapy. PARO has been certified by the Guinness World Records. It features five kinds of sensors; tactile, light, temperature, audition, and posture sensors.
