You think an invisibility cloak is a Harry Potter fantasy? People at Hyperstealth claim that it is now a reality.
A Canadian camouflage design company Hyperstealth claims to have created a wearable invisibility cloak. According to Guy Cramer, CEO of Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp., Quantum Stealth is a material that renders the target completely invisible by bending light waves around the target. The material removes not only your visual, infrared and thermal signatures but also the target’s shadow.
The material is inexpensive and lightweight and doesn’t require batteries, projectors or cameras. For security reasons, the company will not provide public demonstrations, only mockup photos. According to some news reports, the technology is backed by U.S Military. Hyperstealth has described multiple scenarios where the material could be of potential use. It could be incredibly valuable to soldiers and on a larger scale, it could be useful for soldiers on submarines, in tanks or aircraft.
Due to the company’s stance on not providing demonstrations or even videos, people remain skeptical. The company claims that the details of the technology are not being shared due to security reasons, but people can not help but think that this could entirely be a hoax.
Even if the invisibility cloak is a reality, there is no expectation of it being available commercially. So, we have not kept our hopes up too high.
