This Budget Airline Will Make You Stand During The Entire Flight

You know what makes for a successful business? Best customer care. That is more of a universal fact, but some airlines apparently disagree and try to do anything in their power to anger their customers and ruin their travel experience. United Airlines may be known as the epitome of worst customer care but VivaColombia, a budget airline, wants to give the airline a fierce competition with the idea of removing all the seats from the airplanes and making the passengers stand for their entire journey.

We are going to have a hard time deciding who among the two is worst, but with the drastic rise in Columbia’s tourism, the airline is eyeing the opportunity for maximizing their profits by cramming as many people as possible in one passenger plane. The budget airline has bought 50 new Airbus planes to add to its fleet to aid the developing tourism of the place.

The CEO of VivaColombia, William Shaw, said that the airline is exploring travel options where passengers could stand for short flights.

“There are people out there right now researching whether you can fly standing up – we’re very interested in anything that makes travel less expensive. Who cares if you don’t have an inflight entertainment system for a one-hour flight? Who cares that there aren’t marble floors… or that you don’t get free peanuts?”

We are pretty sure that Shaw is the CEO of the barebones airline, but we are not very confident that he understands the entire flight process very well. It is not hard to stand through a flight of one hour, but if the plane stays on the tarmac a couple of hours longer due to runway delays, we can all imagine how horrible the journey is going to be.

Upright seats are not a new idea at all, but the only good part about them is that they have not been approved by the civil aviation authorities of any country yet. We can not really say how long that will stay true because VivaColumbia is certainly not the only one considering the idea. CEO of RyanAir, Michael O’Leary thinks of a plane as flying bus that might as well have bar stools for passengers.

“A plane is ‘just a b—– bus with wings’, he said, “If there ever was a crash on an aircraft, God forbid, a seatbelt won’t save you. You don’t need a seatbelt on the London Underground. You don’t need a seatbelt on trains which are travelling at 120mph.”

We know what you are thinking. Not getting free peanuts may be alright, but getting no seats is absolutely absurd, honestly, downright humiliating and the director of Aerocivil Columbia, Alfredo Bocanegra agrees.

“People have to travel like human beings. Anyone who has ridden on public mass transport knows that it’s not the best when you’re standing.”
Just because one person has the heart and the mind to understand how humans should be treated does not mean everyone will. If any airline manages to coax some aviation director to approve of the vertical seating arrangements, we can imagine the horrendous future of air travel which could even become possible for a day long flights over thousands of miles. We can only hope that scary future is very very far away.
