If you avoid traveling on a boat due to sea sickness, this super boat might just be what you need! Dunsborough, Western Australia based company Nauti-Craft has come up with a high-tech suspension system for the boats, which means you won’t have to bear the highly nauseating water bumps as it cuts through rough seas.
The company designed the technology originally for commercial use on wind farms, but now they have announced its expansion for recreational purposes to give motor boat passengers a more comfortable ride.
The impressive suspension system is being called the 4×4 for the ocean, as it allows the boat to move through rough waters at high speed while the passengers don’t even feel a thing with the help of a hydraulic suspension system.
These hydraulic shock absorbers are mainly built for multi-hulled vessels and help minimize the impact of a rumbling sea for the people inside the ship.
Nauti-Craft’s Managing Director Ken Johnsen said,
‘Our marine suspension technology is on the path to widespread adoption with three companies with programs in place to build boats using the technology during 2017. Initial development has been focused of the commercial application of providing safer and more comfortable operations in the servicing of offshore wind farms. More recently two boat builders are focusing on high end recreational applications of the technology’, he said.
The suspension system enhances a ship’s stability using hydraulic shock absorbers and employs real-time active control which keeps it from swaying and bobbing with the flow of the sea. A ‘passive reactive’ separates the ship’s hull from the superstructure, which allows the hulls to react rapidly to the forces of the wave and stops them from getting transmitted to the deck of the boat.
‘Nauti-Craft has under development concepts that are being targeted at the higher volume recreational sector where we aim to offer never been seen before levels of comfort in a consumer version of the technology’, said Mr Johnsen.
The company is now also looking to expand their design to military uses.
