Web games have evolved a lot in the past few years. Just five years ago, we had a choice of flash games that barely helped pass the time at the office or school. But Ballistic is a game that trumps its predecessors and takes online gaming to a whole new level.

The game not only runs in your web browser, but it runs smoothly. Brazilian developer Aquiris created the first-person shooter and Rumble Entertainment published it. The game is free, lightweight and will completely take your understanding of web games to a new level. Even though we know that a game like Ballistic is technically possible, it is still impressive.

There are numerous classes available, with their own styles of play. At the start of the game, you will be given the Vanguard class, which is an all-rounder with average armor and mobility. You can buy other classes individually or pay $10 a month to access all classes at once. The Tank class runs around with a minigun. Two sniper classes come with their own specialties. There’s also a Grenadier class and a Berserker. There is even a character that becomes invisible when running and can be upgraded to wield a katana.

Teamwork is key for victory and each class plays its own well-defined role. Since the game is free, the majority of players will be of the Vanguard class, which will make it challenging to have a specialized team that you might actually desire. Each class also has its own distinct silhouette which will allow you to tell them apart from a distance. The game is not going to revolutionize the shooter genre of games, nor will it be able to replace games like Battlefield or Call of Duty. But as far as a highly portable, free, web game goes, Ballistic is incredible. It is sure to help you kill time at the office, just make sure you don’t get caught. You can give Ballistic a try here.
