Amazon has finally answered the call for a color Kindle, unveiling its first-ever color E Ink device: the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. For years, Kindle users have requested a device with a color screen—distinct from the tablet-like Kindle Fire—and now their wishes have been granted. Alongside this new addition, Amazon has also refreshed its Kindle lineup with three other models, enhancing the e-reader experience.
The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition features a custom display with a new light guide using nitride LEDs, which boosts color brightness without compromising detail. Readers can enjoy a paper-like color experience for book covers, highlighted text, and images. Users can zoom into images without losing quality and select different color styles. Notably, the device is waterproof, supports wireless charging, includes 32GB of storage, and offers up to eight weeks of battery life.
Complementing the Colorsoft, Amazon introduced three more Kindle models:
- Kindle Scribe: This is the top-tier model in the lineup, blending e-reading and note-taking capabilities. It has a 300ppi, 10.2-inch screen with white edges for a paper-like feel. The Scribe comes with a Premium Pencil for writing and includes AI features for note summarization.
- Kindle Paperwhite: Marketed as the “fastest Kindle yet,” it has a larger 7-inch display, a thin design, and up to three months of battery life. The device is water-resistant and includes 16GB of storage.
- Entry-level Kindle: Compact and lightweight at just 5.6 ounces, this model boasts a 300ppi glare-free screen, faster page turns, and 16GB of storage.
All new Kindle devices come with access to the Kindle Store and a 3-month Kindle Unlimited subscription. There are also Kindle Kids editions for both the basic Kindle and Paperwhite, featuring kid-friendly covers, a 2-year guarantee, and six months of Amazon Kids+.
Prices for the new Kindle range start at $109.99 for the entry-level model and go up to $419.99 for the Kindle Scribe. The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is priced at $279.99, with pre-orders available now and shipping starting on October 30th.
