A lot of the human identification technology companies are focused on facial recognition and are working on improving it so that it can become the standard. However, a Chinese startup has decided to take on a different approach known as AirWave.
AirWave comes from MELUX and is based on micro traits of veins that are found within a human hand. It is an extremely effective identification system that claims to be about a million times more accurate as opposed to facial recognition technology. Allow us to explain why; when it comes to facial recognition, there are only 80 to 280 features points that can be assessed. However, AirWave is capable of scanning more than a million micro-feature points in the palm of the hand within 0.3 seconds.
It is next to impossible to cheat when it comes to AirWave. A mere swipe of the palm using a special sensor is all that you will need for procuring an ultra-accurate authentication or/and authorization in real-time. Xie Qinglu who is the founder and chairman of MELUX said, ‘The AirWave full-hand-vein technology, based on artificial intelligence, is capable of sensing millions of dimensional micro-feature characteristic points, from major veins to capillaries, with just a single wave of the hand, enabling users to remain in motion while being identified and authorized.’
Xie further added, ‘The major veins and capillaries under skin are individually unique, and they are at the five- micrometer level and even more sophisticated than road systems in a metropolis. The AirWave technology can identify one hand out of a billion accurately in less than three-tenths of a second.’ As of right now, the cashless society of China relies on facial recognition, QR codes, and password systems for authorizing mobile payments.
MELUX, however, believes that the current systems can be exploited by cybercrime experts or people who are unfriendly to senior citizens. Privacy concerns surrounding the existing methods are quite well-founded actually. This makes AirWave a much safer option that is less intrusive and can be used by anyone. AirWave technology as unveiled back in 2018 and has been gaining appreciable traction in China.
