A chaotic and confusion filled scene presented itself in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when a construction crane had malfunctioned and had caused a massive piece of debris to crash onto a very busy and traffic filled bridge. During which, despite the devastation caused, the driver of a Tesla Model Y who was in the center of this scene amazingly emerged unharmed from the incident. Unfortunately, though, a construction worker present on the site lost his life along with two other individuals who sustained injuries.
The malfunction was attributed to a failure in a work platform attached to the crane, causing equipment and materials to plummet onto the bridge as explained by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Gollan. Witnesses likened the event to a scene from a movie, with the falling crane section striking the Tesla before landing on a nearby minivan.
The Tesla driver, Mark Cerezin, credited his survival to instinctively slamming on the brakes as the debris descended. Though the impact destroyed the front of his Model Y, the vehicle’s cabin provided crucial protection.
Remarkably, video footage captured Cerezin aiding the injured minivan driver, applying pressure to her wounds with his shirt. Reflecting on the incident, Cerezin expressed gratitude for his survival, emphasizing the importance of returning home to his loved ones.
“Had I not slammed as hard as I had with my foot? I’m not here speaking to you,” Cerezin said.
Video footage even shows Cerezin helping the injured driver of the minivan, using his shirt to compress her wounds. Later, in a social media post, he expressed gratitude for being alive: “I’m just happy to go home to my wife. I’m happy to go home to my family and to my friends.”
