When technology and this four-year-old kid combined, they created the most heartwarming and heroic stories in quite a while.
Roman, who is barely 4, saw his mother unconscious and unresponsive. And while even many adults would freak out at the sight for a few moments, the child showed nerves of steel and an astute presence of mind. As reported by the BBC, the South Londoner actually saved his mother’s life as he used her limp thumb to unlock her iPhone, and then shouted at Siri to call 999 (the emergency number in the Britain).
Not only that, he had the composure to narrate his house’s address to the paramedics, who came in soon enough and were able to save his mother’s life. You can hear the astounding events in the audio clip below.
The boy explained on the phone that his mother was “dead” and that “she’s closing her eyes and she’s not breathing.” Not only did he keep his cool, he managed to follow instructions and tell the dispatcher where he lives.
It brings out attention to the need of having a landline at your place so that children don’t have to go through the ordeal of breaking passwords in case of an emergency.
The fact that Roman knew his address and had the presence of mind shows that he was trained on how to act in such an event, which is an important thing to teach to your children. At the time of the call, he only had his twin brother and a younger sister at home, so he really saved the day and his family’s fortunes.
As for Siri, for once the voice-activated digital assistant worked exactly as it was supposed to. And it shows a great example of how emerging technologies can potentially save lives.
Met Police Ch Supt Ade Adelekan said:
“Hearing this call brings home the importance of teaching your young child their home address and how to call police or emergency services in an emergency situation.”
Well done ROMAN! Send him LEGOS, all the LEGOS!
