When we watch old movies about the future, they always paint a fascinating picture. It is based on what the people of that time perceive the future to be. However, you would be surprised to see the number of times, predictions from the movies actually came to pass.
We will discuss the top 7 Sci-Fi predictions that became a reality.
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey:
Those of you who have seen the movie released back in 1968 might remember that it showed scenes where astronomers were reading from flat screens that looked like tablets. They even got the design right.
2. Smart House:
This 1999 Disney film shows a house being run by a robot called PAT (Personal Applied Technology) that can receive and respond to voice commands. It had striking similarities with modern devices of today like the Amazon Alexa.
3. Total Recall:
This movie showed things that might have been a bit too far of a stretch but it did get one thing right. It showed people riding in “Johnny Cabs” which were operated by an automated driver. Autonomous cars are pretty much the same thing.
4. Short Circuit:
The 1986 movie also showed stuff that might have been a little far-fetched but it was right on the account of autonomous military vehicles. It predicted an autonomous military vehicle called SAINT (Strategic Artificially Intelligent Nuclear Transport).
5. Metropolis:
The 1927 movie made perhaps one of the biggest guesses of the century when a mad scientist makes a robot that humans will be looking to produce human-like robots and androids in the future.
6. Bladerunner:
We are so used to video calling through facetime or Skype that we never stop to imagine a time when it wasn’t the norm. However, that was not always the case and it was predicted in the old movies like Alien and Bladerunner.
7. Star Trek:
Star Trek has been ten steps ahead into the future and has been good at predicting future tech. They got it right with mobile phones and smartwatches when it was just a dream.
