In Singapore, a skyscraper was overtaken by a virtual projection display with 250 million pixels, breaking previous Guinness World Records. The 280-meter-tall UOB Plaza 1 building is now the backdrop for a breathtaking 250 million-pixel projection. This exhibit commemorates the 90th anniversary of UOB Bank and the 60th anniversary of Singapore’s independence.
Three world records have been set by the projections: the longest temporary architectural projection, the highest projection on a building, and the largest light output in a projected image. The projection’s light output surpasses even the brightest business projectors available on the market, reaching an incredible 5.85 million lumens. The display tells a significant story in addition to being visually striking due to its size and brightness.
Janet Young, UOB’s head of group channels, digitalization, strategic communications, and brand, stated, “This projection showcase is our way of giving back – offering a record-breaking visual spectacle for both the community and visitors to enjoy as we celebrate our shared journey.”

Majulah Singapura, a piece of art by local artist Sam Lo that honors Singapore’s multicultural heritage and resiliency, is among the content displayed on the UOB Plaza 1 façade. Furthermore, the SG60 logo progressively changes into the UOB90 logo, signifying the meeting point of corporate heritage and national advancement. The projection also features 30 paintings in three categories—Timeless, Contemporary 1, and Contemporary 2—that were chosen as winners of the UOB Painting of the Year competition.
All of these pieces of art are displayed together on Friday and Saturday evenings, and they rotate throughout the week. A contemporary take on exhibitions is provided by the reworking of traditional art into animated images on the building façade. Although this technical feat is amazing, it serves as a reminder that large-scale projections are highly site-specific and dependent on planning, infrastructure, and artistic intent. The show provides a brief but powerful visual experience and runs every night until August 9, 2025.
