“I purchased this compactor about four years ago. I had a Broan compactor before that lasted me about 20 plus years. It was a pretty simple design and the only problems I had been with worn sprockets that were easy to replace. The Broan 15XESS is a more complex machine. Larger, heavier and programmable. I don’t bother with the programming options outside of the clock. If I want to compress something, I do. It works perfectly for me. Never had a problem with anything going out. It’s easy to load and unload. It compresses well. I have a family of 4, and we feed several times a day, and a bag lasts us about a week before we take it out. That brings me to my only complaint. The compactor bags are rather pricey. The old Broan compactor could use cheap generic bags. The only bags I’ve found that fit Broan makes the 15XESS. Looking at the bags offered by makers of other 15″ compactors are expensive too oh well.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“This compactor uses the basic premise of a fulcrum, in this case, the handle/hinge of the garbage can. It takes a couple tries to find the best spot to push on the trash (just behind centre). But when crushed properly I have been able to reduce the overall volume by about a third, letting me add in additional bags and keep the can fully closed…helps keep out the racoons!” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

I got the Gladiator and what a terrific investment! Now my trash is average three bags, tops four bags. I am very pleased. Easy to use and it works. – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“We have had two whirlpool compactors in the last 15 years and are about to get our third. We love them. They do not last as long as our other kitchen appliances but are real workhorses. We have learned that it is usually not worth repairing them as they are not hugely expensive to replace. Also, the time we save by using them is HUGE. We empty them maybe once a month. We do not put any food products in them only blank paper (which is a large part of our trash).” – Amazon’s Customer Review.
