Space heaters with no built-in overheat protection are potentially harmful if not taken care of. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported around 25000 homes in which 300 people were annually burnt. Where this remains a big problem in itself, manufacturers have taken care of this by invoking an automatic heat protection safety that can let you leave these space heaters with the aged, the kids and the patients alike. What’s more? You get personalised heating from a box that takes little to almost no space. Check out the 10 best space heaters that you can buy today in this list.

“This little heater does its job. My wife is in a private room in a small Alzheimer’s assisted living facility. The heating and cooling are uneven throughout the building. This heater will knock the chill off her room in about ten minutes. The directions say do not use the heater in a bathroom. Well, I didn’t know that till I read the directions, and to heat the bathroom was one of my priorities. Now, I place the heater just outside the door, blowing warm air into the bathroom. This works fine; the small bathroom with shower heats well in about ten to fifteen minutes.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

A fine option!

“Amazing that this little heater can warm our travel trailer even on the lowest setting (although we’re in So California so not asking much of it). Silent compared to other small heaters we’ve tried. We wanted something with a low wattage option and this tested at about 350 watts on low and 650 watts on high. Medium is just a fan setting (no heat). We put it at the other end of the trailer (on a heat-resistant cutting board, sitting on a chair) and use a ten dollar remote to turn it on in the morning if we want to heat up the unit for a bit before getting out of bed. Not sure you want to do what we do since that may not sound fire marshall approved, but the tip over function works well, and the unit does not seem to get that warm to the touch. Have also recommended to people in offices where a couple 1500 watt heaters run up the electric bill and are hard on shared circuits. If you think of a regular space heater (1500 watts) as running fifteen! One hundred watt bulbs and how much effort you go to with LED lights to save energy than trying this little heater first makes a lot of sense.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“Oh good glory, if I could write poetry I’d create an ode to this heater. We live in an older home in VA mountains. It gets cold here you all. Bone chillingly cold. This boy? AMAZING. We have space heaters in almost every single room. Well had. After purchasing Edgar here (we named it. no judgement.) we only need two on our main floor versus the five we had previously. Incredibly efficient and totally safe for our autistic three years old. Makes me want to bring it to bed at night and snuggle. 5. Vornado Space Heater ($88.83)

This is a whisper-quiet, Vornado’s space heater with auto-climate control. The Vortex Technology fully circulates and warms air evenly throughout the whole room. The auto climate control adjusts heat output and fan speed to maintain set temperature, and you can change from the two heat settings (750W/1500W) on the primary display. The fan-only option works well throughout the year. Additionally, the unit features advanced safety through cool-touch case, 2-stage auto shutoff and 1-12 hour timer.

“This heater is exactly what I needed. I’ve had it for a few days now, and it works perfectly. I primarily wanted a heater that would collaborate with an external/plug-in/wall timer. You know, the thing with the dial. So many heaters have a “timer” which is just one-time automatic shut-off, so you still need to turn it on, and set the timer, each night. I wanted something that would turn on and off at specific times of day, and there aren’t many if any. This heater has three rocker switches for power, heat level, and fan speed; it has a dial for temperature. There are no toggles or digital settings or anything. That means you can cut power to it, then restore power, and it’s right back to where you left it — same temp setting, everything. I have it plugged into a heavy duty timer rated for 1875 watts. Beyond meeting that particular requirement of mine, this is a great heater. It delivers on its promise of even heating. It circulates the air very well and automatically adjusts both fan speed and heat output. Much better than heaters that only cycle. It’s also mute — I didn’t believe its “whisper-quiet” claims, but it’s true. One step down (VH2) and you lose the automated fan and heat level (“An” is for automatic). One step up (DVH) and you get digital, which probably won’t work on a timer.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

4. Lasko Space Heater ($24.03)

This is Lasko’s ceramic space heater with an adjustable thermostat. You can choose from the two settings of 1500-watt (high setting), 900-watt (low setting), and fan-only option. It has convenient handles for carrying and automatic heat protection safety. A powerful yet compact heating package for your office desk, study table or living room.

“This is a handy little heater that serves its intended purpose well – heating a small room. I use it to take the chill off my computer room which is not usually heated like the rest of the house since I’m not in there all that often. The unit itself is plastic with a metal grille, but it feels very sturdy and well made. The fan noise level is acceptable. It is far from silent but is quiet enough that it doesn’t interfere. The controls are straight-forward. One dial is the power dial which has four settings: Off – Fan – Low – High. The another dial is the thermostat with an infinite range of settings between – and +. (I’ve found that just below the halfway point is very comfortable, but then again, the winters in California aren’t exactly subarctic)

I’d recommend this for anyone with a small area to heat. A bedroom, computer room, sewing room, etc. (mine’s in a room about 12 foot square). I doubt it would efficiently heat a room that was too much larger.

Follow up review Nov 2011: I just plugged this item in for what will be the 5th winter season. It works as great at it did when I bought it. Still a great item and highly recommended.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

A little unit that seriously kicks out the heat. I use it for an open area den there is a draft from the main home entry on cold nights. I sit it on the door and lounging area. No more cold air is felt across the floor and even warms up the den area. Had thought the remote was an unnecessary perk — not anymore! Extremely pleased with this unit.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“Works great. I had a semi-open floor plan and was worried it would not heat it up a larger area, but it does, and quickly. The thermostats are set to 50 degrees, and this maintains the temperature in the 70s. The fan does blow, but I don’t find it to be loud or annoying at all. Remains to be seen if the electric bill improves. It’s not bad looking either and is relatively compact.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I live in a 40 foot, one bedroom trailer. I need a safe way to heat during the winter months. I have three tiny dogs and two cats inside. It worries me that they would knock papers off of the computer desk, catch fire, and burn the place down! At first, I bought one heater, and I love it! Mute, warms up quickly, not boiling surface, to catch paper on fire! I liked the first so much I bought a second for the bathroom/bedroom end of the trailer. I can’t tell you how awesome these heaters are! For the first time since I have lived here, I have quiet, consistent heat and the front end is as warm as the back end! When the temperature is right, I click the dial, and it keeps the room that right temperature!” – Amazon’s Customer Review.
