10 Best PH Testers

PH meters are primarily used for measuring the acidity and alkalinity of a solution or substance. These PH meters consist of 2 electrodes. One of them is a PH active electrode while the other is a reference electrode. These electrodes attach to a voltmeter.

PH testers can vary in providing assistance. You can find the salinity of soil to the acidity of juice you are just about to have. These data values are a great help to food nutritionists, farmers, etc.

10. Generic PH Tester ($9.67)

This is Generic’s soil PH meter and fertility tester. It is made from ABS material, exclusively for outdoor and indoor plants, gardens and grass lawns. This unit saves water energy and keeps your plants in top condition. No battery is required, and it is incredibly straightforward and convenient to use.

“What a great item for the price! I have a garden and also a lot of hydrangeas outside around my house and if you know hydrangeas, you know they like acidic soil, and you can change the colour of their flowers with the level of acidity in the ground as well. This will work great to know if the soil gets TOO acidic since that can kill the plants. Also for my garden, I have had a hard time with my tomatoes this year and this meter will tell me if it is because of my soil or something else. One complaint is that the directions only came in Spanish, which I speak so I was okay, but I did see there is a video on the product page for this item so if you purchase you might want to watch that if you don’t speak Spanish.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I am an avid garden and have gone through so many of those ph soil readers that you get at Lowes or Home Depot, and to tell you the truth – they were not sturdy enough for regular use. Finally, I came to the conclusion that I was spending more money every year for cheap testers that I would just go ahead and buy one that forest and wildlife people use in the field. It was the best idea, and this meter was well worth the price of $100. It will last me a lifetime, and I will never have to buy another one from here on out.

Then it also has the benefit of having a moisture reader with it. An excellent piece of machinery and I highly recommend that you throw your cheapo ones out the door and buy this one for it will be an item that will be passed on to my children when I pass on.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I bought this meter a few months ago. It has worked great. I love the fact that it’s waterproof and I don’t have to worry about getting it wet. The battery has lasted thus far approx 76 days, and I’m curious how long it’ll go. Today the PH stopped working properly and would only read 4.4 PH for any solution it was placed in. I tried taking the battery out and recalibrating, but nothing worked.

I called the phone number that came with the manual for my meter and was expecting to have to wait on hold for awhile and go through a hassle to try to get a new one or repairs. But after only TWO RINGS a rep picked up the phone and ask how she could help me. I explained the PH portion of the meter wasn’t working correctly. She said she’d transfer me to tech support. After only a SINGLE RING a tech support guy answered. I explained the problem and he just told me to email him my receipt from Amazon. I did, and my new probe is on the way. I also asked for some new calibration solution, and they said YES!!!

THIS WAS BY FAR THE BEST EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD WITH ANY COMPANY. 4 MINUTES ON THE PHONE and a simple email and my new probe is on the way.

HANNA IS THE BEST!” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

6. MoonCity PH Tester ($11.99)

This unit by Moon City is a 2 in 1 soil moisture and PH meter. It is incredibly easy to use; just plug in and read. No batteries required. Instantly know when to adjust pH for your garden, flowers, plants both indoor and outdoor.

Specifications By The Manufacturer:

PH Range: 3.5-8 Ph (3.5-6.5 ACID, 7 NOR, 7-8 ALKALI)
Moisture Range: 1-10 (1-3 DRY, 4-7 NOR, 8-10 WET)

“A probe type of sensor for ph is not going to be as accurate as using test paper. That said, this will give you a “basic idea”. Be sure to check in several spots around the plant and take an average of the readings. You should be testing moist soil, not soil that has been allowed to dry out all week. Drought conditions will change the ph of the soil, so soil should be moist and have been moist for a few days before testing. This has a long probe because testing should be done 4-6 inches below the surface for a better reading. If you need more than a basic idea, you will already be purchasing the test strips also, or planning to send soil off to the AG office in your state/county for help determining the ph levels. We now do not over water our garden as this MoonCity 2 in 1 Soil pH and Moisture Sensor Meter Tester for Outdoor & Indoor Plants Gardens & Grass Lawn lets us monitor the amount of watering closely. We just have to say that this will also help us conserve water for when/if our area goes into conservation mode. We do not like to waste any water, so this is why we enjoy using this moisture sensor.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I have a small farm (5 acres) with several gardens and a lot of grass. With basic soil tests for PH running about $10 each from the agricultural extension office, this solid little meter nearly paid for itself in the first 30 minutes out of the box! Just read the instructions, follow the instructions, and each PH reading takes about 3 minutes. Since I had recently had some soil samples done, I was able to verify pretty much that the gage was “spot-on” by sampling some public areas. It also comes with a handy reference for PH levels for just about everything you can grow, what a super and well-made product!” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

All you do is put this in your soil leave it alone for about 2 hours and then go back for your results. Very easy and no batteries are needed. Next year I’m going to have veggies so I will depend on these to help me. I did receive these for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. 2. CoZroom PH Tester ($17.59)

This is CoZroom’s pocket size PH meter. The unit has a backlit LCD and is ideal for home and laboratory PH testing applications. It has a glass probe and 0.05PH readout accuracy and 0.01 resolution. The electrode can be used in particularly taxing conditions and remain accurate for a long time without recalibration. It automatically compensates for temperature and works on 4x 1.5V LR44 button cell.

“Came quickly, very well packaged. Works very well. My dad was a chemist, gave it a NEUTRAL rating. (The problem is, I inherited his acidic sense of humour.). Using a PH meter to manage swimming pool chemistry makes life so much easier. This was inexpensive, so I had my doubts, but it works. I check calibration against a standard 7.0 solution with every use, and it usually stays pretty close to the norm. The calibration screw could be located in an area where it is easier to access, but no a real problem. Overall, I love this thing for the price. I will buy the same item again when my current one wears out. As it is stored dry, it has to be re-calibrated with each use. I use it for soil testing of area shrubs to determine the amount of lime to apply. I’ve worked in biotech labs so I did not expect this to be scientifically accurate but for the price, it is very acceptable.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.
