Sorry, i pushed the wrong button, i have a question. I like what i have read about many beautiful rifles, my first would be the 50, but cost to much for my wallet, my second is the 338 which from what i have read is affordable and range over 2800 yards, so i have read. The 308 and M1A are my other choices, and a lot really depends om cost . So if you all have a minute and could share your views and opinions to this old guy i would deeply appreciate your view and guidance. And hell help me select my purchase, I would like a ten rounder but not a full deciding factor, the sight that is good for 3500 yards or better, tripod and are any capable of using a silencer at ranges of more than 2500 meters. Is all of this impossible?? So if you all want to help please send me an email and label it finding beautiful, and thank you all and good hunting, Stone Mountain GA.

Well boys, I’ve shot a bunch of them, including that swamp where they kept dropping agent Orange on your head. These days I’m into, and love, as well as the most accurate long range weapon I’ve seen. First is the model 99 Barrett that is a 50 they dropped the bore size to .416. Their reasoning is to keep the projectile supersonic past 2000 metres. One of the things they did is a bounce of bullet configurations and they’re turned out of solid brass. A lot of the rifles on here will drop subsonic at a shorter distance and when that happens, it’s anyone’s guess where it will hit. The second is the MRAD platform. They have picanny rales the full cercumfrence, and the best part, 2 screws and 5 minutes, you have a different halibut barrell. I have a .338 Lapua mag, and a 308. You can change to about any calibre barrell. The next one I’m thinking about a 408 Chevy ttc. I also like their BORS sighting system, basically a computer system that gives you atmospheric pressure, temp, humidity, and the newer one will give you wind but that’s not very accurate. So it has a range finder and knows the ballistics of a Barrett she’ll, although you can add your own load. The range finder gives you the range and, knowing your scope, it will give you the scope settings. Of course you still have to do some calculations but they’re easily done in your head. They also even have a carbon fiber barrell, which I’m a little Leary of cause I’m not sure if they’re lined
I can’t see just the carbon fiber lasting long. Now, I’m sure you’ve all figured out they’re pricey, but the barrells aren’t bad. But spending cheap gives you just that, then you’re disappointed when you can’t get the citcles your buddies get..
But we all know, unless witnessed, yours get tighter the more people you tell.

I haven’t stayed up on my shooting since leaving Vietnam and the Army. I’m wanting to do something in my late years, hunting and hopefully rifle competitions, i was told many years ago, i could be a really good solider with my ability. Well here I’am to see if i still have that eye.

Disagree! The 50. Cal sniper is powerful than AWM. It can dismember a body by just a single bullet.

I have two custom built SAVAGE 10/110 rifles in .338 LAPUA MAG. These have 32″ heavy barrels, MAGPUL TAC21 chassis systems, a NIGHTFORCE 10-42 bench scope, modified by NIGHTFORCE. I load 237gr machined rounds that leave the barrel at 3470fps. My best distance so far has been 3080yds. These shots were done by MARINE CORPS GNY/SGT Memo Sandoval. How about the Sako TRG-22 that many police forces and military use today in modern times? I know this is showing a war history of the arms and what was best in the past, but a current updated list of top 10 modern/current sniper rifles would be a good followup or companion article.
