Rainwater is considered to be the worst enemy of a new house as it encourages the mould and can damage the entire foundations of the structure. However, this unique Japanese family home has been designed to let the rainwater in.
Named the Puddle, the house has a large, hollowed out chimney that collects the rainwater and directs it into a glass-encased space that can also be entered and enjoyed as a piece of contemporary art. The house was designed by Masaki Yoneda in Matsusaka City for a family of three who wanted to live a life more in tune with nature.
The innovative design of the Puddle allows the residents to enjoy natural sunlight, fresh air, and joyful rainfall. The large opening in the extends downward to form the glass enclosed room. See more images of the house below:
