This Italian Hotel Houses The World’s Deepest Pool Equivalent To A 12-Storey Building

Y-40 The Deep Joy6

We recently covered the world’s largest pool by area and that lead us to this pool, which is the deepest pool in the world with a depth of 40 meters and is known as Y-40 The Deep Joy. The swim centre has been designed by the famous architect, Emanuele Boaretto, and is located at the 4-star Hotel Terme Millepini in Montegrotto Terme, Italy.Y-40 The Deep Joy9

The pool, which began operating in June, boasts a diving height equivalent to a 12-storey building or 9 double decker buses stacked on top of each other. Its platforms range from -1.3 meters to -12 meters. Swimmers don’t require any wet suits since the temperature is maintained at 32-34°C.  The pool measures 21m x 18m at the surface and changes into a well like structure as you go deeper.

Visitors have access to facilities such as scuba diving and free diving while underwater caves are present for those who wish to learn about cave diving. A unique underwater tunnel is suspended in the water, which is completely transparent meaning the non-swimmers can enjoy the pool without getting wet at all.

The roof is installed with a sun-bathing deck having loungers where the swimmers can spend time after their diving experience. Italian water sports personalities including the free diver Umberto Pelizzari and Enzo Maiorca – The Father of Free-diving in Italy – helped during the launch of this pool. Ilaria Molinari, free diver, used a mermaid till while diving down to 40 meters in order to have the spectators amazed. In the words of the architect Emanuele Boaretto, “Y-40 is unique in its field thanks to the spa water, which cannot be outsourced. We want to open up new medium and long term work prospects to try and guarantee prosperity, not only for my company but also for the surrounding land and society.”

The pool is functional throughout the year and the activities being offered there include scuba diving, free diving, aqua fitness, hydro-kinsei therapy, watsu and special activities for pregnant women.

Are you, too, imagining a swim in the world’s deepest pool like we are?
