Don’t you just get tired of the conventional office setup? And yes we are talking about the same old chair-desk-setup that you find in almost all offices. Well, here’s something completely new and unique; say hello to ‘The End of Sitting’ that has been created by visual artist Barbara Visser in collaboration with RAAF – a Dutch firm. The design offers a unique take on furniture that is used in offices.
The project is part interior designing and part project of art. You can visit and check it out at the Looiersgracht 60 Gallery in Amsterdam. According to RAAAF, “The installation’s various affordances solicit visitors to explore different standing positions in an experimental work landscape. The End of Sitting marks the beginning of an experimental trial phase, exploring the possibilities of radical change for the working environment.”
The most unique aspect of this project? The office furniture isn’t the conventional chairs and desks but rather a collection of surfaces at different angles and of varying shapes that can be used for leaning against or sitting upon and even for lying on. The color scheme is rather dull, but hey, that’s probably because it is only the first of its kind. The concept is definitely an amazing one and ensures that any employee doesn’t work for too long in a single position and has to move around thus remaining more dynamic.
The End of Sitting has not been designed, however, for market and doesn’t include any catering to disabled persons. The setup may prove to be tiresome for long term usage, but like we mentioned before, it makes people not remain stagnant but rather move around. Do you want such a setup for your office?
