This Flower Maths Puzzle Has Had Many Math Teachers Scratching Their Heads

flower puzzle

Say hello to the new yellow-white gray/blue dress on social media, but it is related a lot to mathematics rather than chromatographic colors. It is basically a set of simple algebraic equations but in this case; the numbers are replaced by the number of petals on flowers. Now we have seen similar puzzles before, and they all have a catch regarding the numbers, and that raises a debate. Here is the question puzzle:

flower puzzle5

Now it has seen hundreds of thousands of comments and other post engagements, but one thing is clear. The creator of the problem has left things intentionally ambiguous to cause the confusion and the resulting debate. There are four equations and three variables so it should have been pretty straightforward if no intent of ambiguity was present. The three variables are a blue flower, a red flower, and a yellow flower.

Due to the ambiguity, different answers have been achieved like 102, 110, 25 and 27. One of the issues is with the blue flower. It has five petals in all except the last equation where it has four, and thus, the problem has become much more difficult to solve as a result. Logic puzzle solver Professor Puzzler has even said that the problem is unsolvable due to the presence of the four petals over here. He also cites a lack of information a reason why it cannot be solved in the current status.

What do you think about it? Can you solve it or not?

It seems that people are misreading the signs Not a plus sign but Multiplication. This makes 26 a silly answer.??????

Where is the difficulty?? It has a possibility of only 2 answers. If the 4 petal flower was a mistake the it must =5 if the number of petals denoted the numerical representation then the four petal represented the number 4. Please don’t ask what the daisy with many petals represents. But we can assume #1.

    One answer = 84 from 4 petals
    Second answer = 105 5 petals

If we consider blue flower with 5 patals equals 5 and blue flower with 4 patals equals 4 then the answer will be 26.

Kalid did you notice the multiplication sign between the Red Flower (20) and the Blue (4)
