For people suffering from disabilities like cerebral palsy, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s or spinal cord injuries, even the mundane tasks such as using a spoon is a mountainous feat.

To alleviate their woes to some extent, a called Liftware has come up with a very creative solution, called a self-levelling spoon. The spoon can adapt to its user’s motion using an ingenious electronic motion stabilizing technology. This helps in keeping the attachment and the connected spoon stable and aligned with the level of the hand even when it is shaking, meaning there is a lesser change of its contents spilling out.

The user has to fasten the wrist with a flexible rubber strap, which then helps in the motion sensors balancing out the level of the spoon. The interesting part is that the flatware attachments can be anything from spoons to knives and forks, while the battery of the handle can last three meals before it needs to be recharged.

The company also brings another product called the Liftware Steady, which has reduced the hand tremor problem in the Parkinson’s patients by 70% by sensing and differentiating deliberate movement from involuntary vibrations. Then the contraption uses two motors inside the handle to stop the shaking, giving the patients better control.
