Thieves Take Away $590,000 Worth Of iPhones From A Moving Truck In A Dramatic Theft

We are completely aware of the fact that robbery is entirely illegal. But once in a while, it is performed with such finesse and class that it deserves to be called the ‘most dramatic and artistic robbery’ of all. Bonus points, if it is done in the “Fast & Furious” style!

The Dutch police caught five Romanian thieves last week, who had managed to bag iPhones worth $590,000 from the back of a moving truck.

Since 2015, the Dutch authorities were investigating a group of Romanian thieves who have been stealing goods or cargo from speeding trucks. It was only until last weekend, when the Dutch Police managed to arrest five of the thieves who were suspected of the dangerous heist. The Romanian thieves were arrested in central Netherlands, where police have retrieved boxes of iPhones with the total cost of around $590,000 (500,000 Euros).

Dutch police spokesman, Ed Kraszewski, said,

“The truck was taking its freight from A to B and did not stop. Even so, (the phones) were gone. So it must have happened that way. And now we finally have the evidence, with the van and the loot.”

According to local reports, so far, 17 robberies have been observed of this kind all around Europe, 5 of them were in Netherlands. In this particular incident, five Romanian men were involved from ages ranging between 33 to 43 years, chasing a delivery truck on the A73 highway near Horst in a modified van. The van drove very close and moved towards the back of the truck. One person climbed out and broke through the doors of the truck, while both the vehicles were speeding on the highway. The stolen iPhones were then passed through the hole in the roof. Romanian police released a video, a shot from a police helicopter of a similar type of raid in 2012, where thieves drove up behind a truck using an angle grinder to break open the doors and steal goods. However, other members of the gang held back the traffic to perform their task quickly and easily.
