The highly anticipated electric semi truck is finally being unveiled by Tesla.  CEO Elon Musk promised to “blow your mind clear out of your skull and into an alternate dimension” during the live unveiling. You can see the video right here:

In an interview with the rolling stone, Musk explained what Tesla is trying to accomplish with the new vehicle: “We just thought, ‘What do people want? They want reliability. They want the lowest cost. And they want driver comfort.’ So we reimagined the truck.”

Musk took to Twitter to describe the semi truck in a cheeky fashion.

The semi truck will not only cut costs for long-haul operators but will have a huge positive impact on the environment. Heavy-duty trucks are responsible for 20 % of the greenhouse gas emissions even though they only make up about 5 % of the traffic.

The truck is powered by a massive battery and has the ability to haul 80,000 pounds for 500 miles on a single charge. Furthermore, it is capable of driving itself on the highways. Musk still has to mass produce these vehicles and he promises that it will begin in 2019.

The task is not over there. Truckers are a hard audience and to get them to shift to this semi truck is a long and perilous journey. Knowing Elon Musk, selling his products has never been hard for him and with the specifications described, it won’t be surprising to see people lining up.
