Okay, who would want to carry three pandas on such a fickle structure? But the students of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University showed the world that if you combine your intuition, creativity and knowledge of engineering, you can manage to hold a weight of over 300 kg or roughly three panda bears by building a bridge using only two components: pasta and glue.

The team is named “Špikis” and already had two previous Lithuanian “Pasta Bridges” records. In 2015 another team’s form bridge carried 251 kg, and it was made entirely out of spaghetti. This year they broke that record as their structure reached a whopping 307.6 kg. The weight of the bridge itself was a mere 1 kg, which makes the feat all the more impressive.

Špikis’ achievement wasn’t a mere fluke or a stroke of luck. The team prepared very diligently and responsibly for the competition, looking after factors such as the type of pasta to be used, the style of structure to be constructed, etc. It took them a whole week to finally build the bridge that broke the record.
