Programmer Automates His Job For 6 Years And Gets Fired In The End After Forgetting How To Code

Programmer who automated his job

A programmer working in a famous software company recently declared on Reddit that he was fired from his job in an entertaining fashion as he had somehow managed to automate his job at the tech firm in Bay area, San Francisco. He kept slacking for six years by going to the gym and playing League of Legends until he forgot to code altogether. Filetoffish, the Redditor earned a good $95,000 a year during this period before his employers eventually found out about his automation program. How the hell did he do it?

guy automates his job
His work involved software quality assurance and testing and to be fair to him, it was a pretty boring job with all the checks and measures. So, instead of dangling around on his desk, he spent the first eight months of his job designing an algorithm that could automate his job. Once he was done with it, all he had to do was sit back and relax on his office chair as the program took care of itself. He boasts that in all of six years, he had to work almost fifty hours maximum instead of forty hours per week he was supposed to be doing.

“From around six years ago up until now, I have done nothing at work. I am not joking. For 40 hours each week I go to work, play League of Legends in my office, browse Reddit, and do whatever I feel like”

Now it is impossible to do nothing on the job because we have friends and co-workers around who know what you are up to. But, this guy had a totally isolated job and only reported to his boss and that too via a network, so his chances of getting caught were very slim. He continued to go to work during this time. It is just that he never actually did anything over there. But, this level of slackness did render him uncompetitive, and he forgot how to code well. He is now heavily addicted to video games and beer. So, not an entirely enviable situation, I must say!

But, he has got around $200,000 saved up during his six-year long stint on the job. How about he works again on his skills and comes up with a real way to automate software testing? That will be a great achievement for him!

Well this is really simple, there are many unit testing programs to automatically do testing and QA.
