With everything going smart, it is no big surprise to see ski-goggles become more enhanced and improved as well.
Google Glass for skiers This latest invention is being called the ‘Google Glass for skiers’ and the gadget claims of never letting you lose a text message or call while you are busy speeding on slopes. The Sundance Film Festival was the forum used by Oakley to advertise about its Airwave 1.5 smart goggles which are worth $500.

Google Glass for skiers3This latest model from Oakley will allow its users to check their Facebook status and will even allow the users to respond while they are busy skiing. How? This gadget makes use of the Projected display technique ( like fighter-jets). The projected display has been installed on the interior of the lens and displays the user’s speed, altitude, speed and distance that has been travelled while they ski. As expected, the goggles can also connect to the smartphone and will be able to transmit the calls to an earpiece. Any text message or Facebook update will be shown on the screen right away. Users will also be able to play music which has been stored on their smartphones and will also be able to navigate through playlist by employing the wireless controller worn on the user’s wrist. An app which comes as part of the package allows the users to select maps and enable them to track friends and relatives who are on the same track.

Google Glass for skiers5This data is displayed at a corner of skier’s vision and it is comparable to that of viewing a 14” screen from 5’ away.  Chris Petrillo, Oakley’s Product Category manager, told us that the ‘The new Airwave has an improved processing speed, and about a 30-35 percent increase in battery life. It’s like driving your car, you look at the windshield every once or glance down to look at your speed. Your friends will show up on the map so you know exactly where they are. People really seem to love that.’

Google Glass for skiers4Chief Executive, Colin Baden, said that ; Airwave represents the power and possibility of technology. As an organisation, we’ve been chasing this beast since 1997,’ he said earlier this year. Ultimately, everything happens through your eyes, and the closer we can bring it to your eyes, the quicker the consumer is going to adopt it.’

While we are not sure if someone would spend so much for this goggle, the concept is exciting for sure!
