Man Tired Of Driving To Work Everyday Builds Himself An Airplane

By -

A locksmith and factory worker in Czech Republic has built himself a personal plane to cut down the time of his daily cimmunte. Farntisek Hadrava has been working at Drevostroj, a small factory in the town of Ckyne for years, and used to take his car daily which took about 14 mintues of travelling. But apparently this was too much for him, so he worked out a solution that most of us can only dream of.

45-year-old has spent the last two years building himself a super light and fully functional plane inspired by the U.S.-design of Mini-Max planes. And now, instead of the “laborious” method of using his car, he gets into the open cockpit plane and stylishly flies to his workplace in half the time!

In an interview to Reuters Hadrava said, “It takes me about 12-14 minutes by car. By plane, it would take around 4-5 minutes if I flew directly, but I take a bit of a detour so that I don’t disturb people early in the morning. So it takes about 7 minutes.”

He has named his propeller airplane, Vampira, which weighs around 175-kilogram. The powerful plane uses a 3-cylinder engine and has a fuel consumption of 6 litres of petrol/hour. The plane has a top speed of 91 km/h, which is impressive for a home-made aircraft. Hadrava claims that this beauty cost him just 100,000 Czech Koruna ($4,150) to build, which makes the feat all the more impressive.

There are practical problems of using such commute for work, the most obvious being finding a space to park. For now, Hadrava lands on a meadow across the road from the factory and then pushes the plane the car parking lot outside his workplace. The plane is ultralight courtesy its wooden frame, thus pushing it is relatively easier than it looks. But seems like Hadrava might have to find another fix sooner or later, as the aircraft occupies space of about four cars parking and it is just a matter of time when there’s a revolt against him.

Hadrava, says he has been passionate about planes since he was ten, and also has previously built a functional replica of the German World War One triplane Fokker.

Would you consider riding this cool plane to your workplace if you ever had the chance?
