Lucid Motors’ New Luxurious Electric Car Can Hit 235 Mph

Tesla electric car has finally got a rival to compete! Lucid Motors is making all the headlines as their electric car prototype has clocked a top speed of 235 mph on their first official testing.

The video by Lucid Motors flaunted the feat after their engineers removed the limiter from the standard model to see just how fast the car could go. The modified model was also equipped with a large rear spoiler, aerodynamic wheels, and a roller cage for the test drive on the 7.5-mile track in Ohio.

The top speed is even more impressive when coupled with a 0-62mph time of just 2.5 seconds, which matches the time of the 155mph Tesla Model S P100D.

The model also had a twin-motor installed, creating 986bhp and a 400-mile range courtesy battery technology provided by Samsung. Lucid Motors have already opened deposits for this model, starting with a price of around $160,000 (£125,000).

While the Californian-based Lucid is considered to be a market competitor for Tesla, it still doesn’t have enough money to build its planned Arizona factory. They are now looking to raise the money to start manufacturing the Launch Edition in the US next year priced at $52,500 (£41,000) with 400bhp and a range of 240 miles.

Following the same model as Tesla, the Launch Edition will carry a host of autonomous features which will be upgrade the car through over-the-air software patches.

David Salguero, Lucid spokesman, said:

“What it does represent, however, is further proof that the Lucid Air is a vehicle without compromise, one that offers incredible performance and dynamics, yet still offers remarkable space and comfort for a sublime luxury experience

“I can tell you that Lucid’s Series D fundraising continues and that it is going very well but I can’t give any details beyond that.”
