We all know how clothes are washed; you throw them into the washing machine and pour some detergent in it. That’s about it, right? How would you feel if you didn’t have to use a detergent for washing clothes? That would definitely cut down the price of washing clothes. Here’s a concept that has been revealed by a Korean designer that makes use of robot fish to wash clothes. The idea is for the robotic fish to identify dirt by making use of a camera and then to swim over the dirty part and suck the dirt out.Pecera dofi Robotic Fish washing8

Designer Chan Yeop Jeong says; ‘Pecera is a collection of robot fish called Dofi, cleaning your clothes in a water tank without detergent.’ He was inspired by the fish biting away the dead skin of feet. He further said; ‘This sustainable way of washing clothes is inspired by doctor fish who nurture human skin, except these busy fishes run on hydroelectric power and clean garments. Washing without detergent makes this washing method suitable for the most sensitive and creates no need for multiple washing circles using water.’Pecera dofi Robotic Fish washing7 Pecera dofi Robotic Fish washing6 Pecera dofi Robotic Fish washing4

He hopes that the design will prove to be more eco-friendly when compared with conventional washing techniques and says; ‘I thought about a washing machine design that is user-friendly and sustainable by washing the clothes clean without any detergent use. If it is used not only in one home but also all around the society, there will be less contamination of nature caused by detergent and people will be able to maintain water quality.’Pecera dofi Robotic Fish washing2 Pecera dofi Robotic Fish washing3

The concept comes from a selection of 100 ideas from total submissions of 1,700 ideas selected by Electrolux for the Global Design competition. The first prize is 5,000 Euros and a six-month stipend internship at an Electrolux global design center. For the year 2014, the theme is Creating Health Homes with 3 focus areas; culinary, enjoyment and fabric care along with air purification.Pecera dofi Robotic Fish washing Pecera dofi Robotic Fish washing7

Lars Erikson, Electrolux Head of Group of Design said; ‘We are excited to open up the voting to the public and our employees around the world. We received some really innovative, visually inspiring concepts based on this year’s theme. They range from appliances to smart accessories to holistic concepts, and support consumers in living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.’
