Here Are 6 New Technologies That Will Change The Way Films Are Made

Future films

The film technology has come a long way since the invention of first moving picture machine in 1885. Over the past century, the advancement in film tech has completely revolutionized the film experience.

As the screens shrink and the film resolution enhances, these are the six technologies that will transform the future of film:

1. Light Field Technology

The image capturing technology is advancing at a breakneck speed. New and innovative camera designs are being explored like the ILLUM which is the world’s first commercially available light field camera. Designed by Lytro, the camera allows the photographer to capture all aspects of an image, just not the parts in focus upon which the light is being projected. This gives the users the choice to opt for their preferred aperture and focus.

2. Flat Lenses

The research team from Harvard researchers has put forward the design for a new flat optical lens. Apparently, a flat, ultra-thin lens bids accuracy on an even wider range of wavelengths. Another advantage is the absence of chromatic aberrations that appear in the images captured with curved-lens. This latest tech will redefine the entire structure of a camera.

3. iPhone7 Dual-Lens Camera

Apple purchased LinX Imaging thus ensuring that the iPhone 7 will stand out among the new handsets flaunting the dual camera technology. The premium quality of the dual-lens will ensure SLR-quality image capturing.

4. Canon Patents

Recently filed patents by Canon indicate that a new Canon 5D, and a Canon C700 to offer competition to the ARRI AMIRA, are in store. The amazing improvement in the pixel count has already changed the imaging industry as we knew it.

5. Computerized Sound Design

The research team at MIT has come up with an ingenious AI system that evaluates a silent video and adds a realistic sound to it. The research has opened the gateway to a future where the entire soundtrack of the film may be designed by an algorithm.

6. AI-written Screenplays

The collaboration between Ross Goodwin from the New York University and director Oscar Sharp resulted in Benjamin which is a self-named AI system that wrote a screenplay for itself after going through dozens of science fictions movie screenplays.

Although future remains unpredictable, these technologies hint at what sort of movies and films we might be enjoying in future.
