This re-purposed barn located in the East Cascades will reinvigorate your love for the farm life. The Seattle-based MW Works have transformed an early-20th-century barn in Washington into a stunning family home comparable with any urban style architecture.

The 3,875-square-foot repurposed barn has beautiful interiors that blend modern designs with rustic elements and uses salvaged materials from the original barn and nearby buildings.

The structure is known as Canyon Barn, where the three-bedroom timber building looks to preserve the original form, character, and history of the barn while drastically improving its interior and comfort.

The house has a sharply pitched roof and an eye-catching glazed window that stretch to the full height of the gable wall and exposes the traditional interior and the exposed wooden trusses of the farmhouse.

“New interventions were carefully considered to have a modern aesthetic while at the same time working within this raw palette,” wrote the architects. “A blend of preservation and intervention, the project updates an aging barn without losing sight of its history.”

Canyon Barn’s ground floor entails a large double-height living area along with a spacious storage space, utility area, and two small bedrooms. Metal and timber staircase leads to the kitchen and dining room on the second floor, which also has a secondary living room, master bedroom, and play area.

Large lights hang from the ceiling, while a large custom chandelier adorning the dining table made out of recycled materials found around the barn.

The unique renovation concept won a Merit Award in the AIA Honor Awards for Washington in 2013.
