EU regulators have fined Google 2.7 Billion dollars (2.4 Billion Euro) fine. The EU Commission found that Google denied “consumers a genuine choice” by steering people to certain products which are present on its own shopping platform. This fine is equal to 2.5% of the Google revenue last year.

Margrethe Vestager, the bloc’s top antitrust official, said “What Google has done is illegal under EU antitrust rules. It denied other companies the chance to compete on the merits and to innovate. And most importantly, it denied European consumers a genuine choice of services and the full benefits of innovation.”

The EU Regulators have given Google 90 days to change its behaviorĀ or will have to pay an additional fine.

Google spokesperson said, “We respectfully disagree with the conclusions announced today. We will review the Commission’s decision in detail as we consider an appeal, and we look forward to continuing to make our case.”
