From pushing the limits of skies to exploring the depths of the land; there is no such thing as “impossible” when it comes to Elon Musk. When he tweeted about getting frustrated in the Las Vegas traffic back in December, it seemed like just any other rant by an exasperated driver. But his follow-up tweets reminded us again how nothing ever is ordinary for this man, as he reiterated his “joke” of building an underground tunnel.
The claims were met with cautious skepticism at that time; surely the man who has a multi-billion automobile company can’t look to change the concept of traveling altogether! But once again, the tech mogul has left us scratching our heads as according to media reports his “Boring Company” is well on its way to create an underground tunnel.
According to Futurism, Elon is now battling with the city administration to get his way, and if his plans are approved, the construction of the said underground tunnel could start in Los Angeles as soon as the end of this month!

Futurism has caught a sneak peek into the digging process which apparently has already started. Musk has also posted a photo of the machine being used to dig the tunnel, sending the internet into a frenzy. Of course, at this point, the machine has just left a massive hole covered by steel boundaries. However, we won’t be surprised if Elon goes ahead to build a full-fledged tunnel.
Unfortunately, as Science Alert notes, Musk hasn’t revealed how the tunnel will be built or how it will work. Since the man is also obsessed with creating futuristic high-speed pod called the Hyperloop; the underground tunnel would somehow incorporate this high-speed pod as well. This reply on Twitter strengthens the speculation.

Tunnel-building machines are not anything new, but as Futurism notes, Musk looks to perform this task faster and more efficiently than ever before (surprise, surprise), which begs the question of planning and funding of the process. It is possible that Elon can leverage his position as the Presidential Advisor and present his proposal to U.S. President Donald Trump.
We could be traveling beneath the city of Los Angeles away from all the traffic jams pretty soon!
