Learning is amazing but what about studying? Nah, not so much! Teaching is an exhausting task, but very fulfilling if you accomplish the task of spiking interest in a student’s mind. Making learning practical has never gone to waste, so a teacher in Gray’s Creek, North Carolina thought of teaching some science to her students in a super gross but cool experiment.

Donna Gill Allen experimented to demonstrate the importance of hand washing and posted it to Facebook. It went viral in no time. She captioned her experiment as,

“To all my teacher friends this is the grossest yet coolest experiment. I did this while teaching about germs and how they spread. You use three pieces of bread. You let all the kids see you put a piece of bread in a baggy with a glove on hence ‘controlled’ then you wash your hands and put a piece of bread in a baggy for ‘clean’ last but definitely not least you pass a piece of bread around and let every kid in class touch it then you put it in a baggy and label it dirty.”

All you gotta do next is, wait and “watch how the bread changes over time due to germs. It is a¬†cool and a great way to teach the importance of hand washing.” Results are here for you to witness.

It is bread, and it was bound to mold. However, the controlled one and the bread slice handled with washed hands showed very little signs of it. The one touched by every student was fully covered in molds because of the spores that children’s hands had swiped over.

The experiment teaches two things. The importance of hand washing is the obvious one, but the same idea can be used to teach about the control in studies. The idea was appreciated widely on the internet. The people suggested that it not just for the kids but also for the adults who do not take their hygiene seriously.

Make sure you wash your hands, folks!
