Can Someone Explain This? Russians Lay Asphalt On Snowed Roads

Laying Asphalt on Snow 4

Laying Asphalt on Snow 7We all know that Russians are head-strong and they do stuff which ordinary people might want to think a gazillion times before they did it. Their Prime Minister himself is such a badass guy. Anyhow, we all have enjoyed the ‘in Soviet Russia’ jokes that exist due to this stubbornness of Russians. English Russia covered an article today on something that is even strange by Russian standards.Laying Asphalt on Snow 2Laying Asphalt on Snow 3

The tagline for the post said; ‘Snow has fallen? Time to lay asphalt!’ We were shocked and consulted Civil Engineers who work with us and well it doesn’t really make much sense. However, look at the pictures and see how Russians are getting at it; actually asphalting on snow covered area.

Do you have any other explanation to this? We would love to hear it in comments.

It most likely is an emulsion based Asphalt mix, not Hot Mix Asphalt. After the emulsion asphalt is laid, thevolatile liquid evaporates and the Asphalt and Aggregates bond together to create the Pavement.

Calm down guys. It is cold mix asphalt paving method. A type of material that has all-Weather Work ability.

Coming from experience of laying asphalt in Australia. When it is 35*C outside and 45*C on the road before the new asphalt is added and you add heated asphalt, one of many problems is heat exhaustion. As well boots tend to melt. I wouldn’t mind laying asphalt in -30*C.

    You will never understand this!

It’s a method of stealing money.
Somebody is trying to show that in his region there are no bad roads…
His boss will pass by and see ‘all is OK!’

And nobody cares that this ‘road’ will melt in spring.

    This thing is called PUTINism………

Give the boys some props! They at least have rollers to pack it with…at home I have seen them fill potholes with asphalt and then pack it with their feet!! 0.o I swear you think this is bad you know nothing …. Bulgaria !

this is the method of making money like Pakistan where they lay roads mainly just before rain season. Thus after first showers the roads break and they get another contract when next season of rain starts. Personal economy rising.

    Guys,

Here is what i think what Russians might be thinking purely from engineering point of view.

The process is called “Road Carpeting” and they are taking it literally 🙂 – its a temporary solution to makes roads usable during heavy snow. Once the winter season is over, the snow and ice melts and the “Carpets” are removed 🙂

    Make sense?

    😀

Covering any unexplained cause under corruption is the simplest. We also know Americans keep the roads even rather construct in Alaska by spraying water. They do every time it is needed. Now work out the time needed to remove the snow, fill pot holes, then repair it. You will find the right ans.

No accountability. They do it, it’s done. Check. Money paid. Politicians say they’re doing their job, the road guys say they’ve done their job. Next year comes and the asphalt is messed up again. They need more money. The politicians can say they’re doing their job again (and they get kickbacks from the road building companies), the building companies are happy – they’re making more money and the vicious cycle continues.

This is what was happening at my old workplace.

The liquid asphalt is hot and will melt the snow immediately, so the road is wet, which it has to be.

From my experiecen, in Poland, theyused to put the asphalt over the big holes or broken previous asphalt. The goal is to cover the holes that can provoced any accidents, simply because of the snow you are not able to see and believe me are really HUGE holes.
