The start of this millennium was marked with excessive pleas for diversity. Discrimination is almost a natural part of this world, may it be on the basis of gender, origin, race, sexuality, or even clothing preferences. While the world attempts to add diversity to workplace environments, tech-world is diversifying the emojis.

iOS 11 is due to be released in Autumn this year, and it will include 56 emojis already approved by the Unicode Consortium last month. Apple has dropped a preview of the new emojis that will come with iOS 11 to celebrate the ‘World Emoji Day’. Among all the emojis, the ones that have sparked the most excitement are: the headscarf woman (requested by many), a breastfeeding mom, and a bearded man.

There is a bunch of new smiley faces, animals, mythical creatures, and a little T-Rex; all approved in the consortium. Apple says, “More animals and mythical creatures like T rex, zebra, zombie, and elf are a fun way to describe situations and new Star-Struck, and Exploding Head smiley faces make any message more fun.”

Jeremy Burge, head of the emoji resource Emojipedia and creator of World Emoji Day says, “The most popular emojis with users are always the smileys and gestures.”

World Emoji Day was celebrated on July 17th, lighting up the Empire State Building in yellow, when Apple dropped a preview of the upcoming emojis. The same emojis will be seen on Android phones after the arrival of Android O and on iPhones when the iOS 11 is released.

The eye roll has become kind of boring, so we are waiting for raised eyebrow emoji to begin questioning everything that is happening around us.
