In 2013, Paris was ranked as the top tourist destination in the world with an estimated 32.3 million visitors. So what is it that makes Paris the worlds’ favourite place to visit? Did all of these tourists one day decide that the images on the Paris wallpapers adorning their bedroom walls were simply not enough and they had to see these magnificent vistas for themselves? What is the allure of this city that it draws so many people from all corners of the world?
Paris is a difficult city to describe. It is a busy city yet it exudes art, culture and history in equal measure. There are the obvious historical attractions, from the majestic Eiffel Tower, which, at over 1,000 feet, provides the most stunning panoramic views of the city, to the hauntingly atmospheric Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame, made famous by Victor Hugo in the classic novel “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame” which was published in 1831.
Alongside these structures are the numerous museums and art galleries, displaying an array of visual representations of history in a variety of forms. The Louvre is the most recognised among these institutions, doubling as both art gallery and museum, but it is by no means the only one.
A day in Paris can be an exhausting affair, with so much to see and do. At some point, a rest is required. The city knows well your needs and caters to them exquisitely. Les Champs Elysees is perhaps one of the most well-known streets in Paris. Lined with cafes, this broad street offers the perfect vantage point to sit and bask in the visual splendour that the city has to offer.
These are just some of the wonders that make Paris such a popular tourist attraction. Nevertheless, of course, you do not have to take my word for it. See for yourself; just make sure you take your camera. After a single day in Paris, you may well have enough photographs that you could create your own Paris wallpapers.
