Balaclava is an intensely popular headgear worn to protect your face, ears and neck as a whole. The name was given to this headwear after the Battle Of Balaclava in 1854 between the Russians and British. Since then it has been an essential winter accessory, especially during the winter sports. Originally made from wool, today’s balaclavas use a variety of modern day synthetic fibers and materials.

“I use this daily through the winter on my bike under my full face helmet. On mornings in the 40s and 50s, I pull the top part over my head to make a heavy fleece neck gator. On colder days, I use the full protection. Once I’m off the bike, I often turn it back into a neck gator, so it doesn’t look like I’m about to rob a convenience store. -No complaints at all. BTW, my brother in law works construction and loves his for use under his hard hat.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

It blocks the wind well and is particularly useful if you have some snow goggles to throw on them too. The face portion of the mask is a mesh type material, so you don’t overheat and can still talk decently enough and still be heard by people around you. I was able to yell to my neighbor through it when he was out shoveling, and he could understand me just fine! The fleece doesn’t impair hearing at all. It’s a great fleece face cover to keep you warm and block the wind!” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

If you decide on your way back that you need to look normal, you can just pull it up off your face and keep it on your head, and it just looks like a boring black hat.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

You can roll the top portion back if you want and just leave up the face portion. My favorite part is that it’s the only Balaclava I’ve had that I can cover up everything except my eyes and the mask doesn’t sway, move or shift out of place, and it never gets in my line of sight. If a friend of mine were looking for one of these, this would be the one I would recommend.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I bought these to use for plowing/ blowing/ shoveling snow and going to American football games. I must say that I am greatly impressed by the design and quality! The piece that covers the mouth and nose is sewn in such a way that when you pull it down, it doesn’t pull the material away from the side of your face. They form to fit my head well without bunching up in common areas. With that said, these will NOT keep your head warm by themselves. They are mostly meant to be a barrier from wind and function as an underlayer to insulation while wicking moisture. They are advertised as such and are perfect for it!I was so happy to see that these were higher quality that I put one on immediately and stalked around the house pretending to be a ninja and attacking my girlfriend with a yard stick. She was unimpressed until she put the other one on (yes, the pack comes with TWO!) and was also so inspired by these that we battled as ninjas for an entire night.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I found on a previous camping trip that I desperately needed something to cover my head and neck while sleeping in cold weather. Make sure, if you have smaller children/grandchildren, that they see it on before they go to bed. I slipped mine on after they were asleep and, of course, one woke up and had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night! He was shocked, to say the least when grandma sat up with this on her head with only the eyes visible. He is seven talk about a nightmare! All in all, it works perfectly for a reason I bought it.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.
